Multi-Container Projects & Oversize / OOG Freight

Project Freight

Solar, energy storage, machinery deployments and retail rollouts — projects with multiple containers, multiple stops, and often oversize or overweight equipment. One project number threads every shipment, matched to the right equipment (flatbed, step deck, lowboy/RGN) and permits where the move continues over the road, with each shipment tracked, scheduled and documented independently and rolled up under a single project view.

What is ShipMay's project freight service? ShipMay manages multi-container project freight — solar, energy storage, machinery deployments and retail rollouts — under one project number, matched to the right equipment and tracked, scheduled and documented independently per shipment.

How it works

01

Containers

One or many containers open under a single project.

02

Loads

Freight splits into individual loads — standard dry van, flatbed, step deck or lowboy/RGN for oversize equipment — each priced and tracked on its own.

03

Destinations & appointments

Each load routes to its own destination with its own delivery appointment.

04

POD, rolled up

Proof of delivery for every load rolls up under one project view.

What is included

These are ordered, priced, tracked, documented and reconciled on this platform by default — exceptions are flagged below
Single project number across all shipments
Independent tracking, scheduling and documents per shipment
Rolled up under one project view
Oversize/OOG equipment matching — flatbed, step deck, lowboy/RGN VIA PARTNER
Permit assistance and route planning for oversize moves VIA PARTNER

One project. Many controlled shipments.

A project shipment should not become a folder of unrelated orders. ShipMay uses one project number to connect the work while keeping every shipment independently scheduled, tracked and documented.

Project view
This structure is designed for deployments and rollouts where completion depends on every individual delivery — not only the first pickup and final destination.

Equipment & Permits for Oversize Moves

When a project includes over-height, over-width, over-weight or heavy equipment, we match it to specialized trailers and coordinate the paperwork that comes with moving it over the road.

What counts as oversize / OOG?

Freight that exceeds standard dimensions or weight — over-height, over-width, over-weight loads, heavy machinery, or OOG/Open Top/Flat Rack containers that need to move by flatbed, step deck or lowboy once they leave the port.

Can I get an instant rate for an OOG shipment?

Not automatically. Equipment matching, permit requirements (they vary by state), escort needs and route height/width restrictions require review by our team per shipment before pricing.

How is project freight priced?

There's no flat rate — each load is priced individually based on equipment type and distance. When a permit is required, the carrier typically handles the application as part of that load's quoted price. We generally don't charge a separate project management fee — but when ShipMay advances a third-party charge on your behalf (for example, a port or terminal fee), a 10–20% handling fee applies for advancing that payment. This handling fee is separate from the third-party charge itself, which is set by the supplier or terminal.

Do I need an escort vehicle, and who arranges it?

Whether an escort is optional or required is determined by the load's dimensions and the states it travels through — some states require an escort above certain width or height thresholds. When needed, the carrier typically arranges it as part of the move.

If one load in my project is delayed, does it affect the others?

Each load is tracked and scheduled independently. However, delays may affect shared site resources or downstream delivery appointments. ShipMay coordinates schedule adjustments across the project when needed.

Who's responsible for tarping and strapping oversize loads?

The carrier typically handles it, as a billed service — usually $300–$800 per load depending on size and complexity.

Does permit difficulty vary by state?

Yes, significantly — some states process oversize permits quickly, others take longer or carry tighter restrictions. The carrier handles these state-by-state requirements as part of arranging your permits.

How far in advance should I book a project freight move?

Generally at least two weeks. For projects with a hard delivery deadline, the most effective approach is to plan backward from your target dates and have everything — equipment, permits, routing — lined up before the cargo ships.

Transportation, permits and escort services are arranged through qualified third-party carriers and service providers.
